Welcome to the December 2025 meeting of the Working Group Standards & Platforms. Martin Saldert from Engage Studios will be joining us to present and discuss how the Unity game engine development environment can be utilised in the creation and management of local digital twins. He will highlight the possibilities offered by Unity and provide an overview of the efforts required for various functions and aspects of a digital twin with Unity. Engage Studios has been working with Unity development for around 10 years, with clients including Volvo and IKEA. Martin himself has a background as a visualisation expert and has been working with VR/AR and real-time graphics since 1989.
Later this spring, we will follow up with further presentations and discussions about Unity from some of our participants who are also actively working in this environment. We will also look further into how a software like Unity relates to other similar software.
International reference architecture for Local Digital Twins
As I have mentioned at previous meetings of the Working Group, I am responsible for work focusing on an international reference architecture for Local Digital Twins in a collaboration between ISO/IEC JTC1 and IEC/SyC Smart Cities. This gives us a unique opportunity to influence the upcoming reference architecture and how we will eventually build these types of solutions around the world. During the second hour of this Working Group meeting, we will begin to look at and discuss the structure and content of the upcoming reference architecture.
We will also give an update on the latest news from the recent plenary week in Berling with JTC1/SC41 – the international ISO/IEC committee on IoT and Digital Twins.
We conduct these meetings as hybrid meetings. You can participate by Zoom or physically on site. If you participate in person, please let me know if you like to join a common lunch, 11.30. I´ll be happy to send you an invite.
